A flexible bookmark made from reclaimed wood from Venetian briccole (the poles you see immersed in the lagoon marking navigable channels).
Created using cutting-edge technology that makes this wood as flexible as leather.
Material: Briccola oak
POV Design Team
This bookmark transforms itself into a napkin holder, thanks to the technology of Alberto Martinuzzo, the inventor of flexible wood.
The reclaimed Briccola wood we use for this simple item is the same wood that allowed us to produce the Canal Grande Placemats and Napkin holders.
Who knows if Alberto ever visited this fascinating museum… for sure, in Venice he came to celebrate – near Rialto – the wedding of Karin and Luciano, souls of Pieces of Venice.
Books, like Venice’s stones and alleyways, are custodians of memory and knowledge, and in the Castello district, this historic soul of the city can be felt in every corner. In its streets and hidden courtyards, an authentic Venice is revived, far from tourist routes, where time seems to stand still.
More about the designer
San Polo 3052
We dedicate this bookmark to the most ingenious and well-known Italian inventor: Leonardo da Vinci, guiding you to an unexpected museum dedicated to him at San Polo 3052, where you can discover inventions, machines, high-definition drawings, and reproductions of famous works like the Mona Lisa.
Alberto Toso Fei narrates...
“Venice is rightly considered the capital of ancient books: as early as the 15th century, shortly after the invention of the printing press, more than half of the volumes written in Europe were published in the Serenissima, a trend that continued at least throughout the 16th century.
Punctuation was perfected and began to be used as we know it (with the addition of the semicolon, which Manuzio introduced). And even the bookmark, often a thin strip of cloth or silk in the finest books, had its first moments of glory.”
