This walking stick is the first object created by Pieces of Venice, born from Luciano and Giulio’s desire to bring light and beauty to an item often seen only as a simple aid and typically relegated to orthopedic stores.
The challenge was to revisit it and elevate it through design so it could be seen as a support to carry proudly and elegantly, a walking stick that could accompany you on mountain walks or strolls in the city.

Material: Briccola oak and poplar

Giulio Iacchetti

Giulio Iacchetti writes: “Each of us carries a piece of Venice in our hearts, a memory of a trip to the most magical city in the world. Today, that memory can be materialized through objects that are born from woods that are truly ‘PIECES OF VENICE,’ harvested from the Venetian lagoon.”

In this case, the walking stick uses poplar wood for the shaft and briccola oak for the handle, so you literally take home two pieces of Venice that merge together to form this beautifully designed and masterfully crafted object.

More about the designer

Castello 3968

When thinking about where to enjoy excellent fish, accompanied by this support, which we carry around certainly more as an accessory than out of necessity, it was natural for us to recommend the restaurant “Al Covo”.

Products with Stories

These objects also serve as a bridge between past and future generations, telling a story of Venetian culture, tradition, and excellence.

Circular Economy

Pieces of Venice is a social enterprise with a circular economy model and a short supply chain. We begin with the recovery and recycling of discarded materials from Venice, and through industrial design, we give them new life as souvenirs and practical items.

Alberto Toso Fei narrates...

”During the 18th century, the walking stick began to gain popularity in common use: it replaced the sword, which had been used by the nobility as a sign of their rank.

In Venice, it was introduced as part of the ‘Liston in Piazza’—those sections of pavement in the city where the nobility could ‘strut’ away from the mud and in full view of everyone. The walking stick became a sign of ‘walking with style,’ and many handles were real jewels to be displayed.

Over time, it transformed from a fashion accessory to a utilitarian tool, and women began replacing it with graceful and sophisticated parasol umbrellas.

In older times, the walking stick also symbolized authority. Venetian naval captains used a short stick—like a scepter—as a symbol of the power granted to them. The Doge, however, never used one.

The only time in the history of the Serenissima it occurred was when Lorenzo Celsi, who was elected Doge in 1361, started walking through Venice with a page carrying a scepter on a pillow, until a council member broke it in two, denouncing the fact to the “Consiglio dei Dieci”, fueling suspicions that Celsi aspired to a lordship.
The Doge died shortly thereafter—some say poisoned, others say from the anger caused by the affront he suffered. Certainly, the use of the stick didn’t do him much good.
