POV Design Team
The Castello 6661/A photo frame is an object that holds memories, much like the stones and walls of Castello safeguard Venice’s history.
It was born from the charm of one og the most authentic districts of Venice, far from the tourist crowds and filled with evocative glimpses and hidden stories. Hare, between quiet streets and secret gardens, people can breathe the more intimate and genuine Venice.
More about the designer
Castello 6661/A
Venice is beloved even by those who have never set foot there, thanks to photography. When you visit or return to Venice, stop by the Cameraphoto archive at Castello 6661/A to discover a vast collection of historical black-and-white photographs.
You can select among panoramas, atmospheres, or characters who visited this wonderful city. There will be an embarrassment of riches, from actors, directors, singers, jazz musicians, politicians, or rich entrepreneurs.
Afterward, you can frame one of them in our photo frame of real briccola wood, with many uses: leaned or hanged, horizontal or vertical, of larch wood or of oak wood, to take it with you or to sell a real piece of Venice.
Alberto Toso Fei narrates...
“Where there are portraits there is the need of frames: and Venice’s woodworkers, the ‘marangoni,’ even had a specialized guild dedicated to making frames, known as ‘marangoni da soaza’ as it is called in Venetian dialect the frame. In the city of Venice in 1773, there were 36 artisan shops specializing in frame-making, with 94 master craftsmen, 124 assistants, and 24 apprentices.
In the 18th century, framing became integral to art, while Venetian portraiture saw another innovation: that of miniature portraits on ivory, introduced by the famous painter Rosalba Carriera, the first woman admitted into Europe’s prestigious art academies.“
