A timeless game that made us reflect on a game archetype, which accompanied everyone’s childhood and will continue to accompany that of many other children… and not only;
The swing, a timeless game, that never gets old, as wood, that in this project assumes the iconic shape of the life-saver installed on Venetian steamers, suspended by a cord for versatile installation both indoors and outdoors.

Supplied: rope (blue, grey or red).
Diameter: 8 mm, allows for installation up to 3 meters from the ground

Material: pier larch (seat)

Baldessari e Baldessari

The idea was to use the worn larch wood planks from the piers because wood is a special material for us, durable and always alive, that takes on beauty even as it ages and, when it becomes waste material, no longer usable for its initial function, it can be brought back to life through new processes and details that give it a new aesthetic value, freeing codes that were still unexpressed.

More about the designer

Dorsoduro 3136

While wandering around discovering Venice and its treasures, we came across the painting The Swing of the Pulcinella by Giandomenico Tiepolo, in which the four typical masks are happily swinging in the air. We thus named the swing after the address of the Ca’ Rezzonico Museum, which hosts these curious Neapolitan masks, guests of Venice, marked by other masks and its wonderful Carnival.

Products with Stories

These objects also serve as a bridge between past and future generations, telling a story of Venetian culture, tradition, and excellence.

Circular Economy

Pieces of Venice is a social enterprise with a circular economy model and a short supply chain. We begin with the recovery and recycling of discarded materials from Venice, and through industrial design, we give them new life as souvenirs and practical items.

Alberto Toso Fei narrates...

“Historically, you wouldn’t hear the word “swing” in Venice; rather, it would be called “biscolo” or “brìscolo”, referring to the swinging rides in gardens or terraces.

The swing is one of the oldest amusements, and in the end, it is one of the simplest to realize: swings require just a plank and a rope, ideally hung from a large tree branch to enjoy the shade and the thrill of moving in the air.

The most famous swing in Venice is found on the ceiling of Ca’ Rezzonico’s Giandomenico Tiepolo Room, a museum showcasing Venetian 18th-century art.
It is, actually, part of a series of frescos made by the painter for its villa in Zianigo, in the mainland, during the end of the Serenissima domain; not a commission, but something private, which assumes a melancholic and personal dimension.

Teared up to be sold overseas, frescoes had been bought by the municipality of Venice and transferred to the museum in 1935; the most famous cycle is perhaps that of the Pulcinella, a very beloved figure to Tiepolo in his last period, a parody of the man and its weaknesses.
Suddenly emerging from the bowels of the earth, using a ladder, the Pulcinelli court women during the carnival, get drunk, take walks, and, indeed, have fun with the swing”.
