Dedicated to the island of Giudecca, it is made from briccole oak wood (the poles we see submerged in the lagoon) and perforated with brass bolts and pins. Inside, there is a bell.
This object is part of the project “Companion Objects, 4 Sounds and 3 Visions,” dedicated to the 6 districts of Venice and the island of Giudecca.

Mariapia Bellis
Mariapia thought of companion objects, 4 Sounds and 3 Visions, hidden in a pocket or hand, one for each district of Venice.
“A companion object that sounds, discreetly, that can be caressed like an amulet, that can be taken out like a binocular not to focus on distant details, but to multiply and distort the views of the city, or invent new ones. The memory of a city to take to other cities and with which to walk other streets…”
In this city of words, noises, uproars, and rare silences, of wonderful, secret, and unexpected visions, you can discover and understand the districts of Venice and the 7 places that inspired Mariapia when she lived in Venice, immersed in the sun or fog.
More about the designer
Isola della Giudecca
When kept in the pocket, it sounds slightly. On days of light fog, on the island of Giudecca, it signals the footsteps of those walking among the boats toward the northern lagoon, the home of the Minor Venetian Shipbuilding Consortium, an unexpected place to discover when the mist puts the lagoon to sleep.
Dedicated to the island of Giudecca, it is one of the 7 small companion objects dedicated to the 7 areas into which Venice is divided.
An invitation to explore the city and discover its many wonders…
It can be purchased individually or as part of the complete set.
