A very Venetian object, but also very summery, redesigned and technologically innovated by a flexible reclaimed wood, thanks to our inventor friend Alberto Martinuzzo, father of an innovative technology. This technology allowed us to have oak in a very thin layer, which can be rolled up and contained inside the hollow handle.

Material: Oak from briccola wood

Lorenzo Palmeri

The ultimate transformable object that is there when you need it, then disappears with a simple gesture.

More about the designer

Castello 5183

UnA magical fan with shape memory, which you’ll be happy to wave after having eaten (and… drunk!) at Mauro Lorenzon, the famous innkeeper of Venice, to whom we have dedicated it, an eclectic and passionate founder of Italy’s Wine Bars.
For years, Mauro delighted us at the Enoteca La Mascareta, at number 5183 of Castello.

Products with Stories

These objects also serve as a bridge between past and future generations, telling a story of Venetian culture, tradition, and excellence.

Circular Economy

Pieces of Venice is a social enterprise with a circular economy model and a short supply chain. We begin with the recovery and recycling of discarded materials from Venice, and through industrial design, we give them new life as souvenirs and practical items.

Alberto Toso Fei narrates...

“The fan has been, for centuries, in Venice and elsewhere, a silent accomplice of female gallantry: a tool for invitation, a screen for unwanted gazes, it literally had its own language of encouragement, promise, praise, threat, and forgiveness.

Whether made of silk, parchment, or painted paper, when waved slowly it meant ‘I am married’; a quick movement meant ‘I am only engaged.’
Held to the right cheek it meant ‘yes’; to the left, a silent yet clear ‘no’. Touching the top of the closed fan meant ‘I would like to talk to you.’

Small drawings on the palm? ‘I hate you’; small drawings on the cheek? ‘I love you.’ Dropping it in front of the person meant an invitation to be followed later”.
